On Collecting

Welcome to "On Collecting," a series of conversations with passionate photography collectors. In these discussions, we explore their deep love for the art form, the thought process behind their acquisitions, and how their collecting has changed over time. We also discuss how they plan to preserve their collections as part of their legacy, so that future generations of art enthusiasts can appreciate these photographic treasures.

In this first conversation, I spoke with David Raymond who assembled a collection of vintage Surrealist and Modernist photographs. You may have even seen his collection, since in 2007 it became part of the permanent collection at The Cleveland Museum of Art through a combination of sale and donation. Be sure to watch to the end where I share some contemporary photographs from David's current collection.
